Plans, the trial and billing
Every new account starts on a free trial with all features and no card asked for at sign-up. When the trial ends you choose a plan, or the account becomes read-only. This article explains the Billing page, what each state looks like, and what stays available if a plan lapses. It does not quote prices, trial lengths or plan limits, because those change. The Pricing page lists what Solo and Team include and cost, and your own trial length and days remaining are shown on the Billing page.
Open Billing
Open the menu at the top right, choose Account, then Billing under Billing. Everyone on the account can see the page. Only the account owner can subscribe, manage billing, export the data, buy a pack or delete the account. If you are not the owner, ask them.
What the page shows
The first box starts with Current plan: and two chips. The first is the plan, Trial, Solo or Team. The second is the state of the subscription: Trialing, Active, PastDue or Canceled. During a trial the box also says how many days are left, for example "9 day(s) left in your trial."

The days left in this picture are an example.
The same box normally shows Storage: "Storage: (used) of (limit) used", with a bar. It is a soft figure that covers media captured since AfterInspect started tracking size. Nothing is locked or deleted if you go over. A link invites you to contact us if you are getting close.
Under it are a card for Solo and a card for Team with the price and a short description of each. On the plan you are on, the button reads Current plan and is greyed out. The other reads Upgrade to Solo or Upgrade to Team.
If Manage billing appears in the first box, your account has been through Stripe before.
Subscribe
- Tap Upgrade to Solo or Upgrade to Team. A Checkout panel opens over the page. It is Stripe's own payment form, served by Stripe, so your card details are typed into Stripe and never into AfterInspect.
- Pay. The panel closes and the page says "Checkout complete - your plan will update shortly." The plan chip changes within a few seconds.
To back out, tap Close in the panel or press Escape. Closing the panel is how you cancel a checkout, and nothing is charged. A subscription that was started while trial days remained keeps those days: the first charge comes when the trial ends, and the second chip reads Trialing until then.
On the Team plan the price is per inspector, so inviting teammates can raise the number of paid seats; see Inviting your team.
If the panel fails to open: "Could not start checkout. Try again." If you are not the owner, the same message appears, because only the owner can start a checkout.
Manage, change or cancel
Once your account has a Stripe subscription, the first box has a Manage billing button. It opens Stripe's billing page for your subscription in the same window ("Opening..." while it loads), and a link there brings you back to Billing. Cancelling a subscription is done from there, and it takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for. What else that page offers, such as changing a card or downloading invoices, is controlled in AfterInspect's Stripe settings and cannot be checked from the app, so look at the page itself.
If the button fails: "Could not open the billing portal."
When a payment fails, the second chip reads PastDue. Stripe retries the card and AfterInspect emails the owner. The account keeps working while this is happening. Fix the card from Manage billing.
Inspection packs
If your account is offered inspection packs, an Inspection packs box appears on the Billing page. A pack is a block of inspection credits that never renews and expires after the time the box states. It is for someone who does not want a subscription yet. A credit is used when a report is delivered; editing or re-sending a delivered report is free. The box shows your balance, any credits held by inspections that are still open, the date the next credits expire, and your purchases. Its size and price are shown in the box, not here, and the buy button is for the owner only. When the credits run out the account is read-only, as below.
Export your data and delete your account
The Export your data box has a Download my data button. It saves a JSON file with your inspections, templates and comment library, and fresh links to every photo, video and audio file. Those links expire 24 hours after you export. Only the owner's export works.

The owner also sees a red Delete your account box. It permanently deletes every inspection, report, template and comment library entry and cancels the subscription. It cannot be undone, so export first. The Delete my account button stays disabled until you type the word shown in bold, DELETE in English, into the box.

When the trial or subscription ends
In the last three days of a trial, a banner appears across the top of every page: "2 days left in your free trial." with a Choose a plan button, then "Your free trial ends today." on the last day. For anyone who is not the owner the button is replaced by "Ask your account owner to choose a plan."

When the trial is over with no plan, or the subscription has been cancelled, the account becomes read-only. The banner says "Your trial has ended - AfterInspect is read-only. Your reports stay available." or, after a cancellation, "Your subscription has ended - AfterInspect is read-only. Your reports stay available." If you have bought a pack and have used, lost or had expire all its credits, it says "You have no inspection credits left - AfterInspect is read-only. Your reports stay available."

What still works, and what does not
You can still open every inspection and report, generate and download reports, share the web link and email it to clients. A lapsed account never loses a report a client relies on.
You cannot start or edit inspections, add media, delete an inspection, or use dictation and the AI features. The New inspection button disappears, and opening the New inspection page says "This account is read-only, so new inspections can't be started."

If the server refuses something because of this, it says "Your AfterInspect trial has ended, so this account is read-only. Choose a plan to keep inspecting - your reports stay available either way." or "Your AfterInspect subscription has ended, so this account is read-only. Choose a plan to keep inspecting - your reports stay available either way." On a pack whose credits are gone it says "You have used or lost all your AfterInspect inspection credits, so this account is read-only. Buy another pack or choose a plan to keep inspecting - your reports stay available either way." If credits remain but every one is already held by an open inspection, starting a new inspection says "All your remaining inspection credits are already in use by open inspections. Finish one, buy another pack, or choose a plan to start a new inspection."
Work you did on a phone before the account became read-only stays on the phone and syncs once the account has a plan again; see Working offline and fixing sync issues.
A payment problem on its own (PastDue) does not make the account read-only.
The owner is emailed when the trial is about to end, when it has ended, and when a payment fails.
Getting back to work
The owner opens Billing (the Choose a plan button goes there) and subscribes, as above. The banner goes away within a few minutes of the plan changing, or sooner if you reload.
If something goes wrong
- The plan did not change after paying. The page checks for a few seconds, but the confirmation can arrive a moment later. Reload Billing after a minute.
- "Could not load billing. Try refreshing the page." Use Retry.
- "Could not export your data. Try again." Try again, and if you are not the owner, ask them to do it.
- "Could not delete your account. Try again, or contact us if this keeps happening." Only the owner can delete the account.
- A teammate sees the Upgrade buttons but they do not work. The buttons are shown to everyone; only the owner's request is accepted.
