Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 21, 2026
This page describes what data AfterInspect collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. It applies to the AfterInspect website and application at afterinspect.ca.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account: your name, email address, company name, and either a password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text) or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.
Inspection content. Everything you enter while using the product: property addresses, client and agent contact details, photos, video, dictated audio, transcripts, and the findings and notes you write. This is your business data - your clients' information, entered by you - and we treat it as such throughout this policy.
Billing information. Subscription payments are handled directly by Stripe. AfterInspect never receives or stores your card number - Stripe's own systems process and store that.
Usage data. Basic operational data (e.g. which features are used, error logs) that helps us keep the product working and fix problems.
Website analytics. The marketing site (not the signed-in application) uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure visits. This only runs on the public pages you're reading right now, never inside the product. Until you choose, and if you choose "No cookies", it runs in a cookieless mode: no cookies are set, and Google receives limited, anonymous information such as the page visited, your browser type and your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store). If you choose "Accept cookies", it also sets cookies so repeat visits can be recognised. Your choice is saved in your browser, and you can change it by clearing this site's data.
How we use it
To provide the service: storing, syncing and rendering your inspections and reports, and generating the branded PDFs you send to clients.
Two AI-assisted features are optional and only run when you use them:
- Dictated audio is sent to Microsoft Azure's speech-to-text service to produce a transcript.
- If you request a structured draft of a finding, the transcript text is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a draft (severity, observation, recommendation). This draft is never inserted into a report automatically - you review, edit or discard it first.
- Speech-to-text transcription is processed in a United States Microsoft Azure region - the one piece of inspection content that leaves Canada in the course of providing the service. Photo, video and document storage does not use this region.
We also use your information to process payments (via Stripe), send transactional email such as report delivery and account notices, and respond when you contact us for support.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. Data is shared only with the service providers (sub-processors) that make AfterInspect work:
- Stripe - subscription billing and payment processing.
- Microsoft Azure - speech-to-text transcription and media (photo/video) storage.
- Anthropic - AI-structured draft generation, only when you use that feature.
- Google - only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Cloudflare - network delivery for the website and application.
- Resend - delivering report-share emails and account notices you trigger.
- Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics - marketing-site analytics (see "Website analytics" above).
Report sharing links
When you publish an inspection report to share with a client, AfterInspect creates a unique link. Anyone with that link can view the report until it expires (you choose the expiry period when publishing). Treat a published link like you would any document you hand to a client - don't post it somewhere public if the contents shouldn't be.
Data storage and security
Inspection data lives in a database where every account's data is isolated from every other account. Every query the application makes is automatically scoped to your account, and that scoping is applied on our servers on every request rather than in your browser. Photos and video are stored in Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. While you're out on an inspection, your data is cached locally on your own device (so the app keeps working with no signal) and synced to our servers automatically once you're back online.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can export a full copy of your data (all inspections, templates, comment library and media) at any time from your billing page. You can also delete your account and all of its data yourself from the same page - this is permanent and cancels your subscription, so export anything you want to keep first.
Your rights
You can access, export, correct or delete your data yourself from your billing page, or by contacting us at the address below. We aim to respond to any request sent to us within a reasonable time.
Children
AfterInspect is business software built for professional home inspectors. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above.
